Pay Gap Check

A free Chrome extension that shows a UK employer’s gender pay gap while you look at their job ads, using the government’s official figures.

What it does

Employers in Great Britain with 250 or more staff have to publish their gender pay gap every year. The figures are public, but nobody looks them up halfway through reading a job ad.

Pay Gap Check puts them where you already are:

  • Select a company name on any page, right-click and choose Check gender pay gap. A card shows the employer’s median pay gap, how it has changed, the bonus gap, and how many women are in the top-paid quarter.
  • Or search from the toolbar. Click the extension and type a name.

It covers the last three complete reporting years. If a name matches more than one employer, it asks you which one you meant.

Reading the numbers

A pay gap compares average hourly pay across a whole workforce. It isn’t the same as unequal pay for the same job, which is illegal. A big gap usually means men hold more of the senior, better-paid roles.

A positive gap means men’s pay is higher on average. Employers report under their legal name, which can differ from the brand on the job ad. If nothing turns up, try the name in the footer of the company’s website.

Privacy

The extension downloads the government’s data once a week and searches it inside your browser. What you look up never leaves your device. Read the full privacy policy.
