Pay Gap Check privacy policy
The short version: what you look up stays in your browser.
The details
This policy covers the Pay Gap Check browser extension, made by Kirstin under the name kirbly (“I” below). Last updated 2 October 2026.
What the extension reads
When you choose Check gender pay gap from the right-click menu, it reads the text you selected. When you search from the toolbar, it reads what you type. It uses that text to search its local copy of the data, and doesn’t read anything else on the page.
What it downloads
Once a week, the extension downloads the published gender pay gap data for the last three complete reporting years from the UK government’s gender pay gap service (gender-pay-gap.service.gov.uk). These downloads are the same for everyone and never include what you searched for. The government’s servers will see your IP address, as with any web request.
What it stores
The downloaded data and the date it was last updated, kept in your browser’s extension storage. Your searches are not stored. Everything is removed when you uninstall the extension.
What it never collects
Your searches, the pages you visit, your browsing history or anything about you. Nothing is ever sent to me.
Permissions
- Context menus, to add the right-click option.
- Active tab and scripting, to show the result card on the page you’re on, only after you choose the menu option.
- Alarms, to refresh the data once a week.
- Access to gender-pay-gap.service.gov.uk, to download the data.
Sharing
I don’t sell, rent or share any data. There are no ads, analytics or tracking in the extension.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what data I hold about you and have it deleted. As described above, that will be nothing. If you’re unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
